REPUBLICANS
When each of us decides to join an organisation, a movement, a party, it is because we believe in its values and principles and because we are convinced that its members share a conduct that will enhance the society in which we live.
In 2024, I decided to create the "Somos os Republicanos" (We are the Republicans) Movement, because I believed that this would be the most sensible way to contribute to improving the living conditions of the Portuguese people.
Over the years, I've come to realise that the leading parties in our country have lost their identity - distancing themselves from the democratic model on which they were founded. I've also come to realise that the current parties have been accelerating in a way that goes against the pillars of democracy and all the values and principles of any other party in the country that allegedly defends rights and a better democracy in the interests of the people, which is why our Somos os Republicanos (We are the Republicans) movement is going against this democracy and the interests of the Portuguese people.
Today, I don't see myself in this type of party, nor in this type of leadership that goes against my moral values and principles, because I believe that a leader must respect a democratic and transparent society. This is the reason why I invite you to join our movement "Somos os Republicanos" (We are the Republicans). As the leader of this movement, you will have my attention and my support in order to resolve the various problems and major challenges, both at the level of the autonomous regions and at national level.
I believe it's possible to live in a transparent and democratic society
I appeal to all those concerned, to all those who believe in creating a fairer society, whether in salaries, pensions, tax cuts or housing, which is becoming increasingly difficult for young families to obtain their own homes. Republicans believe that transparency in democracy is the only way to achieve a better way of life for all Portuguese people.

Meet Raul
I was born in Madeira in 1964 and travelled to South Africa at a very young age. Due to my constant desire to see the world, I emigrated to Australia for 27 years. I returned to Portugal with the desire to bring all the knowledge and ideas that can enhance Portugal. I believe I carry the Perestrello family's resilience and capacity for work in my DNA.
